Eaton Hydraulic Steering
Eaton’s ground-vehicle hydraulic steering range, including XCEL 45, Series 5, Series 10, Series 20, Series 25 and Series 40 steering control units, is no longer part of Eaton’s current product catalogue, though legacy documentation remains available.
Eaton’s current steering business is a separate operation, focused on aerospace applications including aircraft nose wheel steering and flight control actuation, and is not related to ground-vehicle or mobile hydraulic steering.
The wider Eaton hydraulics business, including pumps, motors, valves and cylinders, transferred to Danfoss Power Solutions in 2021. Danfoss has its own range of hydraulic steering units, priority valves and electrohydraulic steering systems – see our Danfoss Steering Components and Systems page.

Legacy Eaton Hydraulic Steering Series
Legacy Eaton steering control units included the following:
- XCEL 45: Open-centre steering unit with load-sensing capability and integrated valve options, including flow checks, inlet relief, inlet checks, cylinder relief, load-sensing relief and anti-cavitation systems.
- Series 5: Load-sensing steering unit with manual steering check valve, inlet relief valve, inlet check valve and integrated column options, available in open-centre design with power beyond options.
- Series 10: High-pressure-rated steering unit with a wide-walled sleeve design, available with dual displacement and VersaSteer operator-selectable quick or metered steering modes.
- Series 20: Steering unit suited to moderate-flow, high-pressure applications such as articulated dump trucks, wheel loaders and forestry equipment, available with dual displacement, Q-Amp flow amplification, VersaSteer and wide angle options.
- Series 25: Wide-angle and balanced architecture design with optional pilot pressure port and symmetrical valving for precise servo response, high-capacity gerotor and load-sensing capability, available in open- or closed-centre designs.
- Series 40: Builds on Series 25 functionality with progressive valving to reduce operating costs, alongside the same wide angle, balanced architecture and load-sensing options.
