Husband-and-wife-team, Mark and Helen Tonks founded Hydraulics Online in 2004 from a spare desk at home. Fast forward fifteen years, and the company has come a long way. Its now eight-strong team is thriving in a global landscape and supports a customer base spanning 130 countries. In addition, the team is servicing a diverse customer base; ranging from start-ups through to Fortune 500 companies.
Reaching for the Stars and Catching 16 Award Recognitions
Helen and Mark made a conscious effort to raise the profile of the business two years ago when they started to share the Hydraulics Online ‘story’ and its ‘unique’ approach. In doing so, they caught the imagination of many – both within and outside the industry.
In the last 2 years Hydraulics Online has been recognised for a startling sixteen awards! But despite this success, the team isn’t resting on its laurels. In fact, they are forging ahead further strengthening the company’s offering and credentials. What is more, they are ensuring that their customers continue to benefit from impartial advice, wide product choice and industry-best customer experience.
In February 2019, the Department for International Trade handpicked Hydraulics Online to be a ‘Northern Powerhouse Export Champion’.
Co-founder and Operations Director, Helen Tonks, sums up the essence of the business,
Customers are at the very heart of everything we do. We operate in a complicated industry and know it can be overwhelming for customers at times. We take that pain away and provide customers with their perfect hydraulic engineering solutions. It’s as simple as that! And even though we promote ourselves online, we feel it is vital to close the gap between automated and human contact. So, all our customers are given a genuine personal service, the best technical advice and unrivalled choice. Every time.
The company has grown at an impressive rate. In particular the past five years have been a pivotal time for Hydraulics Online with a 60% increase in turnover. Many factors play a part in this, including ISO 9001 accreditation, new branding and digital infrastructure, as well as increased market-share in Asia.
