Vickers Hydraulic Cylinders
Vickers hydraulic cylinders are used in some of the most demanding industrial environments in the world, including offshore drilling rigs, steel mills, bridges and hydropower gates. The range covers electrohydraulic, tie-rod, threaded, mill-duty, welded and custom super-sized cylinder types across a wide range of bore sizes, stroke lengths and mounting configurations, to ISO metric and NFPA industry standards.
As with all Vickers products, the Vickers hydraulic cylinders range transferred from Eaton to Danfoss Power Solutions in 2021 and is now marketed as Vickers by Danfoss.
Cylinder Series
- EH Series – Electrohydraulic Cylinders: The EH series integrates a high-performance cylinder, precision feedback transducer and control valve mount in a single package, eliminating the need for a separate hydraulic manifold, external plumbing between the control valve and cylinder, and transducer mounting brackets. Available with a programmable AxisPro valve for closed-loop motion control with simplified electrical connections and no repetitive setups. Available in a wide range of mounting styles including side lug, head square flange, head rectangular, clevis, intermediate trunnion, cap trunnion and head trunnion. Suitable for upgrading NFPA tie-rod, mill-duty, welded or threaded cylinders to electrohydraulic functionality.
- IHM and TV Series – Heavy-Duty Tie-Rod ISO Metric Cylinders: Heavy-duty tie-rod cylinders to ISO 6020-2 and DIN 24554 (TV series) and ISO 6149 metric standards. Grey iron bearings for long service life. Special wear bands eliminate metal-to-metal contact, extending cylinder life and increasing load-carrying capability. The SureSeal system provides exceptional rod seal performance. Patented floating ring cushion seal or alternate ball check design for maximum acceleration. Fully adjustable cushioning system with captive screws for easy adjustment without accidental removal. Nominal pressure 160 bar, working pressure up to 210 bar.
- N Series – Heavy-Duty Tie-Rod NFPA Cylinders: Heavy-duty tie-rod NFPA cylinders engineered for extreme environmental conditions and continuous use. Individual cylinders carry the NZ model code prefix. Bore sizes from 25 mm to 203 mm (1 in to 8 in) with strokes up to 7,620 mm (300 in). Unitised, threadless rod cartridge assembly pilot-fitted into the head for maximum bearing support and wear resistance. Threaded body flanges provide 22% better yield strength than welded material. Extra-wide wear band for extended piston seal life. Captive and tapered cushion valve for smoother, safer operation. Hard chrome-plated piston rods in a range of diameters. Can be upgraded to electrohydraulic functionality.
- G Series – Large-Bore Tie-Rod NFPA Cylinders: Large-bore tie-rod NFPA cylinders for the most demanding industrial applications. Standard bore sizes from 254 mm to 762 mm (10 in to 30 in) with stroke lengths up to 7,620 mm (300 in); custom bore sizes and longer strokes available. High-yield-strength tubes and pistons, rolled tie-rod threads, and steel heads and caps. Nitride steel bearings for higher load capacity, longer life and superior corrosion resistance.
- R Series – Medium-Duty Tie-Rod NFPA Hydraulic Cylinders: Medium-duty tie-rod NFPA hydraulic cylinders available in 19 different mounting styles with bore sizes from 25 mm to 508 mm (1 in to 20 in). Removable, unitised, pilot-fitted rod bearing for maximum bearing capacity, wear resistance and reliability. Chrome-plated steel body tube for corrosion resistance. Fully adjustable cushioning system with captive cushion screws. Interchangeable mounts allow drop-in replacement for other manufacturers’ models across the same range.
- T Series – Threaded Cylinders: Compact threaded cylinders for applications where cleanliness is a priority, including food processing and wash-down environments. The threaded body and head design eliminates tie-rods, removing surfaces that collect dirt and debris. Nitride cast iron rod cartridges, high-strength steel heads, caps and tubing, and hardened piston rods. Long threaded heads provide greater side load distribution and improved rod guidance. Torqued self-locking nut secures the piston. Pressurised nitrile seals for reliable performance under demanding conditions.
- EM and IM Series – Mill-Duty Hydraulic Cylinders: Mill-duty hydraulic cylinders designed for extremely demanding environments including steel manufacturing facilities. EM series is imperial; IM series is ISO 6022 metric. Heavy-duty, high-yield-strength steel throughout the cylinder including the flange. Threaded flange design for reliable operation in the most demanding applications. Patented floating ring cushion seal or alternate ball check design for maximum acceleration. Fully adjustable cushioning system. SureSeal system for exceptional rod seal performance. Special wear bands eliminate metal-to-metal contact. Custom bore sizes and stroke lengths available.
- W Series – Welded Cylinders: Heavy-duty industrial welded Vickers hydraulic cylinders with no tie-rods to collect dirt and debris. Standard bore sizes from 38 mm to 203 mm (1.5 in to 8 in) with stroke lengths up to 6,096 mm (240 in); custom bore and stroke sizes available. High-yield-strength steel construction with a special end-cap welding process. Precision-machined ductile iron gland provides a long bearing surface for side-loading resistance. Piloted cast iron piston in a single piece for concentricity. Steel port boss for a full-thread, pressure-tight porting connection. Mechanically loaded piston seals and innovative rod seals. Pressure rating up to 207 bar (3,000 psi). Wide variety of mounting options and coatings available.
- XL Series – Custom Super-Sized Cylinders: The XL series covers custom-engineered, super-sized hydraulic cylinders for the most extreme industrial and civil engineering applications. XL cylinders have been deployed globally in offshore oil exploration, mining operations and hydroelectric dams, with custom manufacturing capabilities of up to 22-metre stroke lengths. Each cylinder is individually designed by Danfoss application engineers, accounting for overall loading and kinematics, mounting configurations, seal system design, embedded sensor requirements, corrosion protection and installation and maintenance practices. Manufactured at the Danfoss facility in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Applications requiring XL cylinders are handled on a project basis — contact our team to discuss your requirements.
