    Vickers PVM Series Piston Pumps

Vickers PVM pumps are open-circuit, axial piston designs available across fourteen displacement sizes from 10 to 141 cm³/rev, arranged as seven size pairs (the two smallest, PVM010 and PVM013, share the same standard-bore pressure rating rather than forming a standard-bore/over-bore pair). A strong, proven rotating group allows the pumps to handle pressures up to 315 bar continuous with reduced maintenance cost, while high-load bearings and a stiff drive shaft provide long life at rated industrial conditions.

The pumps feature a saddle-type yoke with steel-backed polymer bearings; the stiff yoke reduces deflection and allows even bearing loading, while a single control piston reduces loading further, allowing a smaller pump for tighter installation spaces. A unique three-piece envelope of flange, housing and valve block, together with a bimetal timing plate, gives low fluid-borne and structure-borne noise levels, reducing or removing the need for damping barriers between the pump and the operator. A tapered design further reduces vibration.

The current Design Code B generation of PVM adds a high-pressure shaft seal as standard, new control piston and sleeve material for longer life, an enlarged case port for better case draining, and a standardised design across sizes intended to improve lead times.

Each displacement size is available with an “E” valve plate, optimised for quiet operation between 1000 and 1800 rev/min, or an “M” valve plate for higher speed operation up to 2800 rev/min depending on size. Mounting flanges are offered in SAE and ISO configurations, with SAE, ISO and BSPP port options in tube and flange versions, and side- or end-ported models available to suit machine space constraints.

PVM pumps operate with anti-wear hydraulic oil or automotive crankcase oil as standard, and can also accommodate high-water-content and phosphate ester fluids; see Fluid Compatibility below. ATEX/UKEX certified variants are available for installation in classified hazardous areas, and marine-classified variants are also available; see review note on scope.

Rated Bearing Life (L10) by Model

Bearing life at 50°C (120°F), SAE 10W oil, 1 bar absolute inlet pressure. Bearing life can be adjusted for other flow, speed and pressure combinations using the formula given in the manufacturer catalogue; standard water-glycol fluids reduce rated bearing life to approximately 20% and require case flushing.

    Control Options

Availability of each control option depends on displacement size, as noted below. An adjustable maximum displacement stop and gauge ports for monitoring inlet and outlet conditions are standard across the range.

    A – Pressure compensator

Standard control, available on all sizes. Provides continuously modulated flow to meet changing load demand at a pre-adjusted compensator pressure; below the compensator setting, the pump operates at maximum displacement. Available as a high-pressure type (140 to 315 bar adjustment range) or a low-pressure type (35 to 130 bar adjustment range).

    B / C – Load sensing and pressure compensator

Available on all sizes. Provides power matching of pump output to system load demand, maximising efficiency and improving load metering. Combines a pressure compensator (high- or low-pressure type, as above) with a flow compensator (high pressure, 21 to 41 bar, or low pressure, 10 to 20 bar), giving eight orderable variants in total. Code B includes a bleed-down orifice; Code C has this orifice plugged.

E – Industrial compensator, with load sensing

Available on PVM057 to PVM141 only. For use where multiple, remote, or electronically controlled compensator settings are required, with load sensing. An external relief valve (not supplied) controls the pilot pressure that determines the differential pressure setting. Has an NFPA-D03/ISO 4401-03 interface for various control strategies.

F – Industrial compensator, without load sensing

Available on PVM057 to PVM141 only. As the E option, but pressure compensating without load sensing.

    L – Power control / torque limiter

Available on PVM057 to PVM141 only. Limits maximum torque output by reducing displacement as pressure increases, allowing a larger pump to be run from a given size of prime mover. The torque setting is field-adjustable between 20% and 90% of rated torque without changing components or springs.

    W – Remote pressure control

Available on PVM018 to PVM050 only, per the original catalogue documentation. As the pressure compensator (A) option but arranged for remote adjustment via an external relief valve connected to the pilot port.
