Vickers Hydrokraft PVW PFW Piston Pumps

The Vickers by Danfoss Hydrokraft PVW and PFW series are open-circuit axial piston pumps of swashplate design, built for reliable operation and long service life in industrial hydraulic systems. PVW pumps offer variable displacement; PFW pumps are the fixed-displacement equivalent. The Hydrokraft product line was previously marketed as Eaton Hydrokraft; it is now supplied under the Vickers by Danfoss brand, following Danfoss’s 2021 acquisition of Eaton’s hydraulics business.

The pumps use a robust, tension-rod housing design that increases durability and helps reduce operating noise, together with oversized shafts and bearings for extended bearing life. Rotating and pressure-loaded parts are pressure-balanced for greater efficiency and serviceability. A thru-drive option allows a second pump to be mounted from the same shaft, and individual pump sections can be paired to form combination (tandem) units.

PVW variable-displacement pumps are available in six sizes from 130 to 750 cm³/rev; PFW fixed-displacement pumps are available in four sizes from 250 to 750 cm³/rev, with the 130 and 180 sizes not offered as fixed-displacement units. Both series share a common modular design with a wide range of displacement control, mounting, shaft and port options, allowing the pump to be configured to suit a broad range of open-circuit hydraulic system requirements.

In addition to standard mineral hydraulic oils, PVW/PFW pumps are rated for use with water-glycol and phosphate ester fire-resistant fluids, subject to seal material selection. ATEX/UKEX-certified variants are also available for installation in classified hazardous areas.

    Control Options

The PVW/PFW series offers the following displacement control options. An optional maximum displacement stop, adjustable by screw between 50% and 100% of maximum displacement, is available on all control types.

    DF – Pressure compensator

Standard control type. Holds system pressure constant across the flow range. The pilot-operated compensator can be set manually, hydraulically or electronically, and includes a remote port.

    LR – Power control

Power consumption is held constant across a continuously adjustable power hyperbola between a minimum and maximum setting. Available with a pressure limiter option.

    SP – Electrohydraulic proportional control

Displacement is set electrically via a proportional valve and servo piston acting on the swashplate, with electrical position feedback. Hysteresis is approximately 1% of end value.

ST – Electrohydraulic proportional control (closed-loop drives)

Operates without throttle losses within electrically adjustable limits, using electrical swashplate angle feedback. Requires a minimum operating pressure above 25 bar; below this the pump moves to maximum displacement automatically.

    DP – Pilot-pressure proportional control

Displacement is proportional to a separate pilot pressure signal. No feedback signal is required, though an optical indicator is recommended. Hysteresis is approximately 3% of end value.

    PQ – Digital PpQ controller

Electronic control of displacement, pressure and power via the ER9.x digital amplifier and controller card, with swashplate feedback. Ordered as a separate item from the pump.

    ES – Electric motor control

Displacement is adjusted via a 3-phase electric servo-motor and worm-gear, with limit switch or potentiometer position feedback. Available to special order only; no pressure or power limiter option.
