Low Pressure Char-Lynn Motors

Char-Lynn low-pressure spool valve motors use hydrodynamic journal bearings and distribute pressurised fluid via integrated valve slots into a Gerotor or Geroler® orbit gear set.

The range covers the J, H, S, T and W series, each available in a wide selection of displacements, shaft types and mounting configurations. Low-pressure Char-Lynn motors are suited to light- and medium-duty mobile applications across agriculture, food processing and general-purpose machinery.

Series overview

J Series: The smallest in the Char-Lynn spool valve range. Displacements from 8.2 to 50 cm³/r, continuous pressure up to 165 bar (2,400 psi). The J series shaft and seal allow return line pressures up to 76 bar (1,100 psi) without a case drain line and peak pressures of 220 bar (3,190 psi) in the return line. Provides up to 5 kW from a 61 mm diameter package. Suited to augers, conveyors, sweepers and other compact low-flow applications.
H Series: Medium-duty spool valve motors using Gerotor gear sets. Displacements from 40 to 369 cm³/r, continuous pressure up to 177 bar (2,565 psi). A wide variety of mounting flanges, shaft options and valving configurations are available. Suited to agricultural machinery, conveyors and general-purpose mobile equipment.
S Series: Spool valve motors with optimised Geroler® gear sets and steel end caps for enhanced performance. Displacements from 58 to 371 cm³/r, continuous pressure up to 172 bar (2,500 psi). The precision-machined rollers in the outer ring support rolling contact between the star and ring, improving efficiency and service life compared with a standard Gerotor design.
T Series: The highest pressure rating in the Char-Lynn spool valve range. Displacements from 36 to 370 cm³/r, continuous pressure up to 202 bar (2,930 psi). Suited to applications requiring more torque and pressure than the J, H or S series can provide, while retaining the compact spool valve design.
W Series: Compact spool valve motors for light- to medium-duty mobile and industrial applications.

A Gerotor has an inner rotor with one fewer tooth than the outer ring, with the teeth in sliding contact. A Geroler® uses precision-machined rollers in the outer ring instead of fixed teeth, which reduces friction and improves efficiency and durability. Both designs are used across the Char-Lynn low-pressure spool valve motor range.

The J series is the smallest and most compact, suited to low-flow applications. The H series covers medium-duty applications with a wider displacement range. The S series uses an optimised Geroler® gear set for improved efficiency. The T series offers the highest pressure rating in the spool valve range. All four use the same basic spool valve operating principle.
