Hydraulics Online Filtration Expertise: MP Filtri filters, indicators and accessories for industrial and mobile hydraulic systems
MP Filtri is a global leader in hydraulic filtration, contamination monitoring and power transmission components.
Founded in Italy in 1964, the company has grown into an international group headquartered in Pessano con Bornago, Milan. It has subsidiaries in Germany, France, the UK, Canada, the USA, China, India, Singapore and the UAE and is supported by a distribution network in more than 100 countries.
MP Filtri designs and manufactures a complete range of hydraulic filters, contamination monitoring products, mobile filtration units, tank accessories and power transmission components for industrial, mobile, agricultural, construction, mining and material‑handling applications.
The company’s product portfolio covers every stage of hydraulic fluid cleanliness management. This includes high-pressure, low- and medium-pressure, return line, return‑suction, spin‑on and stainless steel filters, along with suction strainers and a wide range of filtration accessories. MP Filtri also produces advanced contamination monitoring technologies, including portable particle counters, inline contamination monitors and analytical software. These systems provide early warning of fluid degradation and help prevent mechanical wear, component damage and system failure, supporting predictive and preventative maintenance strategies.
MP Filtri’s UK operation serves as the group’s centre of excellence for contamination monitoring, designing and manufacturing high‑tech particle counters and diagnostic equipment used worldwide. Products such as the LPA3 portable particle counter and the ICM inline contamination monitor provide fast, accurate fluid condition analysis and support long‑term hydraulic system reliability. Hydraulics Online’s technical articles highlight the importance of contamination control and showcase MP Filtri’s role in improving hydraulic system performance and reducing downtime.
With more than 50 years of experience, MP Filtri continues to invest in research, development and global manufacturing capability. The company’s focus on fluid cleanliness, system protection and contamination control has made it a trusted supplier to OEMs and hydraulic system designers worldwide.

MP Filtri News and Insights
Contamination Management
Up to 80% of all failures on hydraulic systems are due to contaminants in the hydraulic fluid. Solid contamination is the main cause of malfunction, early degradation failure and in hydraulic systems. It is impossible to remove completely, but it can be effectively controlled by appropriate devices.
Sizing Hydraulic Filters
Choosing the right hydraulic filter depends on the characteristics of other system components and their sensitivity to contamination, as well as a number of other key factors.
Benefits of proper positioning and sizing include great system reliability, longer fluid and component life and reduced failures.
Fluid Condition and Filtration
Hydraulic fluid acts as both a lubricant and a power transmitting medium. The presence of solid contaminant particles in the liquid inhibits the ability of the hydraulic fluid to lubricate and causes wear to the components. The extent of contamination in the fluid also affects the performance and reliability of the system.
Particle Counters Handbook
This handbook provides information and practical examples of contamination measurement technologies and particle counters in use. It covers various topics including the importance of particle counting in preventive maintenance; an explanation of the solid contamination control device; reference standards and further details on MP Filtri’s product range.
Filtration & Element Technology
Filters are constructed by fibre interlacing. This forms different shaped and sized pathways that trap particles when they find apertures that are too small. Depth filters are generally produced with papers impregnated with either resins, metal or inorganic fibres. In inorganic fibre filtration, filtering layers are often overlapped to increase the ability of the filter to retain the contaminant at an even lower millimetre level.
Hydraulic System Contamination
Whether through the use of contaminated fluid or caused over time by surface wear, corrosion or cavitation, contamination is the biggest source of system failure. It can be triggered by the presence of solids, other liquids, or gases in the hydraulic fluid. Here we look at the effects of each, best practice for prevention and how to remove contaminants already in your system.
