Unlike a linear, force-moving cylinder, the hydraulic motor uses hydraulic pressure to rotate. A hydraulic motor is built very much like a pump, but when operated, oil enters the hydraulic motor and turns the shaft. The speed of a hydraulic motor is dependent on the amount of oil supplied by the hydraulic pump and the torque is dependent on the amount of pressure supplied.
While there are may different types of hydraulic motor, most can be categorised as either a: radial piston motor, hydraulic gear motor, hydraulic vane motor or axial piston/plunger type motor. Don’t worry if you’re not sure on what sort of hydraulic motor you need; our experienced team can give you unbiased advice and recommend one that will be best suited to your application.
